Kapil Dev asks ICC to take the cue from smart Modi

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev sprang a surprise by sportingly appreciating Lalit Modi, the chairman and commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) yesterday.

It was Modi, through the IPL that virtually caused Kapil's Indian Cricket League (ICL) to die a slow death in India. The legendary allrounder, who is here for the Laureus World Sports Award, said that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should learn from the success of IPL.

"Modi has come out and promoted the game so beautifully and made it successful. The ICC should similarly put their time into it and try and market Test and One-day cricket in the right manner," said Kapil.

"He [Modi] is one who took the step and gone ahead before anybody could. He is a private businessman and he has done it beautifully than anyone could imagine. We never thought 15 years back that somebody can take cricket to this level. He has not only taken cricket to a different level but also the cricketers to a level that the players can be proud happy and say look we can make a better life out of this. So authorities should learn from Modi and his group," Kapil said.
